Platte Valley Simmentals LLC is located on the south side of the Platte River in Kearney, Nebraska. Family members involved include Terry and Jacki Buettner and their son Drew and his fiancé Emily Griess and daughter Lauren. The operation consists of a mix of Simmental, Angus and Simangus females and focuses on mating for half-blood cattle to maximize heterosis keeping the commercial cattleman in mind. Along with the cattle there is row crop rotation of corn and beans as well as alfalfa production. Currently we are utilizing A.I. extensively as well as transitioning most of our Simangus and Angus females to recips.
Currently we market our bulls in the spring through a private treaty bid off sale in partnership with Smedra SimAngus. Our females are marketed as breds and virgin heifers private treaty on the farm and through Gonsior Simmentals “In the Heartland Sale”.
Drew attended college at Southeast Community College in Beatrice, NE majoring in Animal Science and received his bachelors at Fort Hays State competing on the livestock judging team at both junior and senior colleges. He is currently living in Ogden, Iowa where he is a field sales agronomist for Farmers Cooperative Co. Emily is currently finishing her Veterinary school through the Nebraska/Iowa State program and will graduate in 2013 with a hope to focus in feedlot consulting as well as embryo transfer. She also attended Fort Hays State as well and competed competitively on the judging team.
Lauren is involved with the operation as well when she gets time away from her studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she is studying to be a Dental Hygienist.
Please join us for our 2nd annual Private Treaty Bull Bid-off on January 26th and 27th, 2012. |
